The door switch tells the dryer the door is closed and it's safe to run. If it fails, the dryer won't start even though the door is closed.
The thermal fuse is a safety device that cuts all power if the dryer overheats. Once blown, the dryer won't start until the fuse is replaced.
The start switch activates the motor when you press the start button. If it fails, pressing the button does nothing.
Some dryers won't start at all if the drive belt is broken, as a safety feature to prevent the motor from running without a load.
The control board or timer signals the motor to start. If it fails, the dryer won't respond to the start button.
