The icemaker module controls the entire ice-making cycle — filling with water, freezing, and ejecting cubes. When the module fails, the refrigerator stops making ice entirely. This is the most common cause of a refrigerator that suddenly stops producing ice.
Symptoms: No ice production, icemaker arm stuck, no water filling the tray

A worn or torn door gasket allows warm air in, raising the freezer temperature and slowing or stopping ice production. Check the gasket for tears, gaps, or areas that don't seal properly.

Start by checking that the icemaker is turned on and the shut-off arm is down, then test the water supply before replacing parts.
Most GE icemakers have a test/reset button on the front or side of the module. Press and hold it for 3 seconds to initiate a test cycle. The icemaker will run through a full cycle — if it completes successfully, the issue may have been a temporary glitch. If it doesn't respond, the module likely needs replacement.
After installing a new icemaker, allow 24 hours for it to begin producing ice. The first 1–2 batches may be smaller than normal as the unit calibrates. Discard the first few batches to flush any residual manufacturing residue from the water lines.
