LIQUI MOLY Top Tec 6600 0W-20 – BMW Longlife-17 FE+ Engine Oil with LSPI Protection

LIQUI MOLY Top Tec 6600 0W-20 is the correct engine oil for BMW vehicles requiring the BMW Longlife-17 FE+ specification — the most demanding BMW oil standard, designed specifically to prevent Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) in modern turbocharged petrol engines. LSPI is a combustion chamber phenomenon that causes uncontrolled ignition events at low engine speeds under high load — it produces a knock or bang that can cause catastrophic piston, connecting rod, and bearing damage in a single event. ⚡ Using a non-LL-17 FE+ approved oil in a BMW engine that requires this specification leaves the engine unprotected against LSPI damage. LIQUI MOLY Top Tec 6600 22046 is the correct, BMW-approved formulation that provides full LSPI protection and is backward compatible with older BMW Longlife standards.

❓ Is This the Right Oil?

This is the correct oil if ANY of the following apply:

  • ✔ Your BMW’s owner’s manual or service sticker specifies BMW Longlife-17 FE+ (LL-17 FE+)
  • ✔ Your BMW has a modern turbocharged petrol engine (B38, B46, B48, B58 family) produced from approximately 2017 onward
  • ✔ Your service manual specifies 0W-20 viscosity with BMW LL-17 FE+ approval
  • ✔ You need a backward-compatible oil that also meets older BMW Longlife standards

Not sure? Contact us with your year, model, and engine code — we’ll confirm the correct spec before you order.

🔧 Key Performance Benefits

  • Meets BMW Longlife-17 FE+ — the only BMW spec with mandatory LSPI protection

⚠️ Complete Your BMW Oil Change:
For a full service, also pick up the correct BMW oil filter (OEM or OEM-equivalent) and a new drain plug washer for your specific engine. BMW drain plug washers are single-use aluminium crush washers — reusing them is the most common cause of post-service oil leaks on BMW engines. Check your engine code for the correct filter part number.

⚙️ Oil Change Notes

Skill Level: EASY — 30–45 minutes. Warm the engine for 2–3 minutes before draining. BMW engines typically require 5.0–7.0L depending on engine displacement — check your owner’s manual for the exact fill quantity for your engine code (B38 = ~4.5L, B48 = ~5.0L, B58 = ~6.5L). Drain completely, replace the drain plug with a new aluminium crush washer, install a new oil filter, fill to the correct level, start the engine, check for leaks, and reset the CBS (Condition Based Service) oil service counter via the iDrive menu.

✓ Vehicle Compatibility

Confirmed for BMW vehicles with B38, B46, B48, and B58 turbocharged petrol engines (approximately 2017 onward) requiring BMW Longlife-17 FE+ specification — including 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, and Mini models with compatible engine codes. Also backward compatible with vehicles specifying older BMW Longlife standards. Contact us to verify compatibility with your specific year, model, and engine code before ordering.

💡 Pro Tip

LSPI Is Not a Myth — and the Wrong Oil Makes It Worse:
Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) occurs in turbocharged direct-injection petrol engines under low-RPM, high-load conditions — think pulling away from a stop in a high gear, or accelerating hard at low speed. It produces a single violent knock event that can bend connecting rods, crack pistons, or destroy bearings in one occurrence. The BMW LL-17 FE+ specification exists specifically because conventional oil formulations — including some older fully synthetic oils — can actually increase LSPI risk due to their calcium-based detergent packages. Only use an oil with confirmed LL-17 FE+ approval in a BMW engine that requires it. If your service sticker specifies LL-17 FE+, this is not a spec you can substitute with a generic 0W-20.
