When a burner on your GE gas range won’t ignite, produces a weak or uneven flame, or cuts out immediately after lighting, a failed gas valve assembly is the most common cause. In JCGB660 and JCGB700 series GE gas ranges, the gas valve assembly controls gas flow to each surface burner. When the valve solenoid fails or the valve body cracks, gas flow is interrupted and the burner won’t light or won’t stay lit. ⚡ Common failure point in GE gas ranges after repeated heat cycling. Skill Level: ADVANCED — 45–60 minutes. Shut off the gas supply at the shutoff valve and disconnect power before beginning — this is a gas line repair. Remove the cooktop or range top panel to access the valve manifold, disconnect the gas line fitting and wiring harness, and swap the valve. Reconnect all fittings and test every connection with approved leak-detection solution before restoring gas and power. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
