When your GE refrigerator runs too warm in the fresh food section while the freezer stays too cold, or temperatures fluctuate unpredictably between compartments, the air damper is the most common failed component. In GE side-by-side and French door refrigerators, the air damper (also called a damper control or baffle) regulates how much cold air flows from the freezer into the fresh food compartment — when it sticks open, the fridge freezes food; when it sticks closed, the fridge warms up while the freezer stays normal. ⚡ Common failure point in GE GSH, GSS, PSS, and GSF series refrigerators. Part WR01F01713 is the genuine OEM replacement that restores precise cold air regulation and even temperatures throughout both compartments — direct fit, no modification required. Supersedes 200D1535P002 and WR17M303.

✔ If these symptoms match, this is the most likely failed component in the system.
✔ In most cases, replacing this air damper restores even temperatures in both compartments immediately.
Skill Level: MODERATE — 20–30 minutes. Unplug the refrigerator before beginning. The air damper is located at the top of the fresh food compartment behind the interior back panel or ceiling panel — remove the panel screws, disconnect the wire harness from the damper motor, and swap the assembly. Note the damper orientation before removal. Reconnect the harness, reinstall the panel, and plug in the refrigerator. Allow 4–6 hours for temperatures to stabilize before evaluating performance.
