Diagnose the cause and find the right replacement part — fast shipping across Canada and the USA
A dishwasher that won't fill with water — or fills too slowly — can't clean dishes and will often stop mid-cycle or display an error code. On Bosch, Siemens, and related dishwashers, the water inlet valve is the most common cause. This guide walks you through every likely cause, how to confirm it, and the exact part you need.
The water inlet valve is an electrically operated solenoid valve that opens to allow water from your home supply into the dishwasher tub. The control board sends a signal to open the valve at the start of each fill cycle. A float switch inside the tub monitors the water level and signals the board when enough water has entered. If the valve fails to open — or opens only partially — the dishwasher won't fill and the cycle can't proceed.
The solenoid coil inside the valve burns out, the valve screen becomes clogged with mineral deposits, or the valve body cracks from age or water hammer. A failed valve produces no water flow at all; a partially clogged valve causes slow filling and may trigger a fill timeout error.
How to confirm: Disconnect power and water supply. Remove the valve and inspect the screen for mineral buildup. Test the solenoid coil with a multimeter — no continuity means the coil has failed.

How to confirm: Check that the supply valve under the sink is fully open. Test home water pressure with a gauge at a nearby tap.
Contact us if you need help diagnosingThe inlet valve has a small mesh screen that filters debris from the water supply. In areas with hard water or older plumbing, this screen can become clogged with mineral deposits or sediment, restricting flow without the valve itself failing.
How to confirm: Remove the inlet valve and inspect the screen. If it's visibly clogged, clean it or replace the valve assembly.

If it's stuck in the "full" position, the control board thinks the tub is already full and won't open the inlet valve. This is less common than a failed valve but worth checking if the valve tests good.
How to confirm: Locate the float assembly (usually at the front corner of the tub floor). Lift it manually — it should move freely up and down. Test the switch for continuity in both positions.
Contact us to find the right float switch for your model1. Turn off the water supply valve under the sink. 2. Unplug the dishwasher or turn off the circuit breaker. 3. Pull the dishwasher out from under the counter (remove the mounting screws from the underside of the counter). 4. Disconnect the water supply line from the inlet valve. 5. Disconnect the wiring harness from the valve solenoid. 6. Remove the mounting screws holding the valve to the dishwasher frame. 7. Install the new valve, reconnect the wiring and water line. 8. Slide the dishwasher back, restore power and water, and run a test cycle.
Part number 10023852 replaces 00628334 and 628334 and fits a wide range of Bosch, Siemens, and related dishwashers including SHE, SHP, SHX, SHV, SHPM, SHXM, and DWHD series models.

How do I know if it's the inlet valve and not the control board? If the dishwasher starts a cycle, the pump runs, but no water enters the tub, the inlet valve is almost always the cause. The control board rarely fails in a way that only affects the fill cycle. Contact us if you need help diagnosing.
Can I clean the inlet valve instead of replacing it? You can clean the screen, but if the solenoid coil has failed, cleaning won't help. Replacement valves are inexpensive — replacing the whole assembly is usually the better repair.
What error codes indicate a fill problem on Bosch dishwashers? E15 (water in base), E16/E17 (water level issues), and E23 (drain pump) can all be related to fill problems. Contact us with your error code and model number for specific guidance.
Is this a DIY repair? Yes — replacing a dishwasher water inlet valve is a moderate DIY repair. The main challenge is pulling the dishwasher out from under the counter. Total time: 30–45 minutes.
