Is This the Part You Need?
The dishwasher door springs provide the counterbalance tension that holds the door open at any angle and controls how smoothly it closes. When the springs break or lose tension from metal fatigue, the door becomes a hazard — it slams shut under its own weight when released, won't stay open while you're loading dishes, or drops suddenly mid-position. The 12004119 is a premium XPart aftermarket door spring kit that replaces the superseded Bosch OEM part 12004119 (now updated to 00754866), restoring proper door tension across the SHE, SHX, SHP, SPV series and Thermador DWHD series dishwashers.
Symptoms This Part Fixes
- Dishwasher door slams shut when released — won't stay open
- Door falls closed while loading dishes
- Door drops suddenly or falls mid-position
- Door feels heavier than normal or unbalanced on one side
- Door closes too quickly or requires extra force to open
- Visible broken, stretched, or detached spring on inspection

Installation Notes
Skill Level: Intermediate — springs are under tension and the door must be removed or tilted for access (30–45 minutes).
- ⚠️ Safety first: Dishwasher door springs are under significant tension — wear safety glasses throughout this repair. A spring under tension can snap back with force
- Disconnect power at the breaker before starting
- Open the door fully and carefully release tension from the old springs before removing them from their mounting points
- Note the routing path of the old springs and cables before removing — photograph if needed
- Install the new springs following the same routing, ensuring both sides are tensioned evenly
- Test the door through its full range of motion before restoring power — the door should hold open at any angle and close smoothly without slamming

Bosch dishwasher door springs work as a matched pair — if one has broken or lost tension, the other is under asymmetric stress and will fail shortly after. Replace both springs while the door is already open for service. Also inspect the door hinge cables (the thin cables that run from the springs to the door hinge arms) — these cables fray and snap independently of the springs and cause identical slamming symptoms. If the cables show fraying, kinking, or wear at the attachment points, replace them at the same time. Installing new springs on frayed cables is a repeat repair waiting to happen.
