A Samsung dryer that tumbles clothes but produces no heat is one problem — a drum that won’t spin at all is another, and the AC drive motor is almost always the cause. In most Samsung DV-series dryers, the AC drive motor DE31-10172D is the single component responsible for rotating the drum. When it fails, the drum stops completely, clothes sit wet and stationary, and the dryer may hum, trip the thermal fuse, or go silent entirely. ⚡ Common failure point in Samsung-built front-load and top-load dryers. Skill Level: Moderate — 45–75 minutes. Unplug the dryer before beginning — never work on a live appliance. Remove the front panel and drum to access the motor mounted at the base of the cabinet. Disconnect the wiring harness and motor mounting bolts, transfer the blower wheel to the new motor, and reinstall in reverse order. Reconnect the drive belt around the drum and idler pulley before reassembling the cabinet. Run a test cycle and confirm drum rotation before closing up.
