318255001 Frigidaire Bake Element for Ranges, Fixes Little or No Heat During Bake

🇺🇸 Matching U.S. Part Number: 318255001

318255001 is a Frigidaire/Electrolux oven bake element used in select electric ranges. It replaces discontinued OEM numbers 2118181050 and 5303325092.

The element is installed at the bottom of the oven cavity and supplies heat during bake operation. A burned, blistered, electrically open or physically damaged element may contribute to little or no bake heat, slow preheating, uneven baking or visible arcing.

Similar symptoms can also result from damaged wiring, burned terminals, an incorrect voltage supply, a failed control relay or a temperature-sensor problem.

Genuine OEM and aftermarket versions may have different published wattage and dimensions. Current Canadian OEM distributors publish 318255001 as 2500W / 240V. The XPart or Partsnet-compatible replacement may be 2400W / 240V. Confirm the complete appliance model, mounting plate, terminal configuration, dimensions and electrical rating before ordering.

Disconnect the range from electrical power at the breaker before removing the element or handling its wiring.

Confirm the complete model number before ordering. Similar bake elements may differ in wattage, dimensions, mounting plate style or terminal configuration.

Common Symptoms

  • Little or no heat during bake — oven runs but does not reach temperature
  • Slow preheating — oven takes much longer than normal to reach set temperature
  • Uneven baking — food browns on one side or remains undercooked
  • Element does not glow red during bake cycle
  • Visible blistering, separation or burned section on the element sheath
  • Electrical arcing or popping sound from the oven cavity

Check Before Replacing

  • Test the element for continuity and resistance with a multimeter — an open circuit confirms element failure; a shorted element may show continuity to the sheath
  • Inspect the element terminals and wiring harness for burning, corrosion or loose connections
  • Check the oven control board and relay for fault codes or visible damage before replacing the element
  • Verify the voltage supply at the terminal block — a partially tripped double-pole breaker can reduce voltage and prevent the element from heating fully
  • Confirm the temperature sensor is reading correctly — a failed sensor can prevent the control from energizing the bake circuit
Pro Tip: A failed bake element is one possible cause of little or no heat during bake — not a guaranteed diagnosis. Before ordering, test the element with a multimeter. An open reading (OL / no continuity) between the terminals confirms the element is electrically failed. If the element tests good, the fault is likely upstream in the wiring, relay, control board or temperature sensor.

Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the range from electrical power at the breaker before beginning — this is a 240V appliance.
  2. Photograph the element terminals, wiring connections and mounting plate position before disconnecting.
  3. Compare the new element with the original before installing — verify mounting plate, terminal style and dimensions match.
  4. Inspect the wiring harness, terminal block and nearby insulation for heat damage or corrosion.
  5. Restore power and test the oven through a full bake cycle. Confirm the element glows evenly and the oven reaches set temperature.

Use a qualified technician when diagnosis or installation is outside your experience.
