When the dishwasher machine control board fails, the appliance becomes completely unresponsive — no cycle starts, buttons do nothing, and the display may go dark or show persistent error codes. The WD21X24901C is the genuine OEM machine control board for GE dishwashers, coordinating cycle selection, water temperature, wash timing, and all safety interlocks. It directly replaces the original WD21X24901. This is the factory-original fix — and one of the last available units.
⚠️ Symptoms of a Failed Dishwasher Machine Control Board
- Dishwasher completely dead — no lights, no display, no response to any button
- Dishwasher won't start even though it has power
- Cycle starts but stops partway through without completing
- Control panel buttons unresponsive or intermittently working
- Display blank, flickering, or showing persistent error codes
- Incorrect cycle timing — wash runs too long or cuts off too early
- Water temperature not reaching correct level during wash
- Dishwasher randomly resets or changes cycles mid-wash

💡 Pro Tip — Check the Door Latch and Thermal Fuse Before Ordering This NLA Board:
A failed door latch switch is the most common cause of a dishwasher that won't start — and it looks identical to a dead control board. The dishwasher will not begin any cycle if it doesn't detect a fully latched door. Test the door latch switch for continuity with a multimeter before ordering. Also check the thermal fuse — a blown fuse cuts all power to the control board and produces a completely dead panel. Both are inexpensive parts under $20. Because this is an NLA board that cannot be returned once installed in most cases, rule these out first. Order the board only after confirming the latch and fuse test good.
⚙️ Installation Notes
-
Skill Level: Intermediate — inner door panel removal and harness connector transfer required
-
Always disconnect power at the breaker before servicing — do not rely on the dishwasher's power switch alone
- The machine control board is typically located behind the inner door panel — remove door screws to access
- Photograph all harness and ribbon connector positions before disconnecting the old board
- Handle the control board by its edges only — circuit components are static-sensitive
- Transfer connectors one at a time to avoid mis-wiring
- Do not overtighten mounting screws — board standoffs are plastic and will crack
- After installation, restore power and run a full test cycle before closing the door panel
