Check Before Replacing

• With the oven controls calling for Bake and while observing from a safe position, check whether the igniter glows and whether the burner ignites; do not attempt to bypass the safety valve.
• If the igniter glows for approximately 90 seconds without ignition, the igniter may be too weak to open the safety valve; this does not by itself prove the igniter is defective.
• If the igniter does not glow, disconnect power and inspect the connector and wiring for loose connections, damage, or pinching before testing continuity with a suitable multimeter.
• If gas odor is strong or persistent, stop testing, avoid flames or electrical switching, shut off the gas supply if safe, and contact a qualified technician or gas utility.
