Warm the new gasket in warm water or leave it in a warm room for 15–20 minutes before installation — this makes it pliable and easier to seat evenly. Start at the corners and work around the perimeter, pressing the gasket lip firmly into the door channel. Close the door and check the seal with the paper test before finishing. Do not use sharp tools that could nick the new gasket.
Close the door on a sheet of paper at multiple points around the perimeter. If the paper slides out with little resistance, the seal is compromised. After installing the new gasket, repeat the test at all four sides and both corners. A properly seated gasket should grip the paper firmly. If one section still fails, gently pull that section of the gasket lip further into the channel and retest.
