The essential fix for a Whirlpool top-load washer with a broken, cracked, or loose drum paddle that rattles during spin, snags or tears clothes, makes scraping or banging noises, or has fallen off completely.

The drum baffle is the vertical plastic fin inside the wash drum that lifts and tumbles clothes during the wash cycle. Over thousands of cycles, the plastic can crack (from stress at the mounting points), break off (from impact with heavy items like shoes or tools), or become brittle (from heat and detergent exposure).

A broken baffle creates multiple problems:

  1. Rattling noise — the broken piece bounces around inside the drum during spin, making loud banging sounds
