If your GE gas range oven won’t light, takes more than 90 seconds to ignite, or the ignitor glows but the burner never fires, the oven ignitor is the most common cause. In GE gas ranges, the ignitor glow bar (WB13K21) draws current through a silicon carbide element that heats to ignition temperature, signaling the gas safety valve to open. When the ignitor weakens or fails, it can’t draw enough current to open the valve — the oven won’t light even though the ignitor appears to glow. ⚡ One of the highest-failure components in GE gas ranges — average service life of 1.5–2 years under normal use. Part WB13K21 is the genuine GE OEM ignitor that restores factory ignition timing and gas valve response. Note: this part number has been superseded by WS01F01201 — see the banner above if you need the current replacement.
❓ Is This the Right Part?
This is the correct fix if ALL of the following are true:
- ✔ Range powers on and surface burners ignite normally
- ✔ Gas supply to the range is confirmed on and at correct pressure
- ✔ Ignitor glows orange/red but oven burner never lights — or oven takes 90+ seconds to ignite
- ✔ ONLY problem is oven not lighting, slow ignition, or ignitor not glowing at all

🔧 Common Symptoms
- Oven won’t light — ignitor glows but burner never fires
- Oven takes more than 90 seconds to ignite on Bake or Broil
- Gas smell in oven cavity without ignition occurring
- Oven ignitor does not glow at all when Bake is selected
- Oven cycles off before reaching set temperature (weak ignitor causing valve issues)
✔ If these symptoms match, the ignitor is the most likely failed component in the system.
✔ In most cases, replacing the WB13K21 ignitor restores normal oven ignition immediately.

While the oven is open, inspect the gas safety valve (WB19K10032) — a weak ignitor that ran for months before failing can damage the valve’s bimetal contacts. If the oven still won’t light after replacing the ignitor, the valve is the next component to test. Replacing both at the same time on a high-mileage range eliminates the most common ignition failure chain.
⚙️ Installation
Skill Level: MODERATE — 20–40 minutes. Disconnect power and shut off gas before beginning. Remove the oven bottom panel and burner cover to access the ignitor at the rear of the burner assembly. Disconnect the two-wire harness connector — do not touch the ignitor element with bare hands, as skin oils reduce service life. Secure the new ignitor with the mounting screws, reconnect the harness, restore power and gas, then run a Bake cycle to confirm ignition within 30–60 seconds.

💡 Pro Tip
A GE oven ignitor must draw at least 3.2–3.6 amps to open the gas safety valve. An ignitor that glows but draws only 2.5–3.0 amps will never open the valve — it looks functional but isn’t. Use a clamp meter on the ignitor circuit during a Bake cycle to measure current draw. If it’s below 3.2A, the ignitor is weak and must be replaced even if it glows. This test takes 60 seconds and eliminates guesswork.
