  1. Disconnect power – Unplug the range or turn off the circuit breaker. Electric ranges use 240V — always verify power is completely off before working.
  2. Allow cooktop to cool – Ensure all burners are completely cool.
  3. Remove control knob – Pull the knob for the affected burner straight off the control shaft.
  4. Access the control panel – Remove the screws securing the control panel back cover (usually at the rear or top of the panel). Some models require lifting the cooktop first.
  5. Locate the infinite switch – Identify the switch connected to the burner that's malfunctioning. Trace wires from the element if needed.
  6. Take a photo – Document all wire connections on the switch before disconnecting. Note which wire goes to which terminal (L1, L2, H1, H2).
  7. Disconnect wires – Pull the spade connectors straight off the switch terminals. Use needle-nose pliers if needed — grip the connector, not the wire.
  8. Remove mounting hardware – Depending on your model, the switch may be held by a friction clip, mounting bracket, or hex nut on the shaft. Remove the appropriate hardware.
  9. Remove old switch – Take out the failed infinite switch.
  10. Install new switch – Position the new WG02F15069 switch and secure with mounting hardware.
  11. Reconnect wires – Attach each wire to the correct terminal on the new switch (match your photos). Ensure connectors are fully seated.
  12. Verify connections – Double-check all wires are secure and correctly placed.
  13. Reassemble control panel – Replace the back cover and secure with screws.
  14. Reinstall control knob – Push the knob onto the D-shaped shaft, aligning OFF position correctly.
  15. Restore power – Turn on the circuit breaker or plug in the range.
  16. Test operation – Turn the burner on and test all heat settings from low to high. Verify the burner turns off completely in the OFF position.

A burner that won't turn off is a fire hazard — address immediately. If the switch contacts have welded together, the burner stays on regardless of knob position. Disconnect power to the range until the switch is replaced. Before replacing the switch, verify the element itself isn't the problem — test the element for continuity with a multimeter (should show 20–50 ohms depending on wattage). If the element is open (infinite resistance), it's burned out. If the element tests good but doesn't heat, the switch is likely bad. When connecting wires to the new switch, ensure they're on the correct terminals — L1/L2 are line (power in) and H1/H2 are heater (power out to element). Reversed connections can damage the switch or element. After installation, test all heat levels — the burner should cycle on and off (you'll see the element glow brighten and dim) to maintain the selected temperature.

WG02F15069 GE Range Surface Element Infinite Switch – Fix Your Burner That Won't Heat, Won't Turn Off, or Only Works on High

The complete fix for a GE electric range burner that won't heat, won't turn off, only works on high, has no temperature control, or heats erratically. The infinite switch is the control mechanism behind your burner knob — it regulates power to the surface element by cycling electricity on and off, allowing you to select any heat level from low simmer to high heat. When the switch fails, the burner may not heat at all (no power sent to element), stay on high regardless of knob position (contacts welded closed), not turn off when the knob is set to off (dangerous!), or provide inconsistent heat that fluctuates unpredictably. If turning the burner knob produces no change in heat level, or the burner behaves erratically, the infinite switch has failed and needs replacement. This genuine OEM GE part directly replaces WB24X25013, WB24X22002, WB24X20324, and WB24X10186. Fits GE, GE Profile, GE Café, Hotpoint, and Haier electric ranges and cooktops. Moderate 20–30 minute DIY repair that restores precise burner temperature control.
