Water pooling under a Whirlpool, Maytag, or Kenmore washer — especially during or after the spin cycle — is almost always caused by a failed drum shaft seal allowing water to bypass the bearing and leak onto the floor. In most Whirlpool-platform washers, the shaft seal sits between the outer tub and the drum bearing, preventing wash water from reaching the bearing assembly. When it wears out or tears, water migrates along the drum shaft, soaks the bearing, and drips onto the floor — and if left unaddressed, the bearing fails next, turning a $15 repair into a $200+ one. ⚡ One of the most common wear items on Whirlpool top and front load washers — the seal degrades naturally over years of thermal cycling and detergent exposure. Part WP8577374 is the genuine OEM replacement that stops the leak and protects the bearing from water damage immediately.

✔ If these symptoms match, this is the most likely failed component in the system.
✔ In most cases, replacing this shaft seal stops the leak immediately and prevents bearing failure.
Skill Level: ADVANCED — 60–90 minutes. Disconnect power and water supply before servicing. Access requires disassembling the washer cabinet and removing the outer tub to reach the bearing and seal assembly at the drum shaft. Press the old seal out, clean the bearing seat, and press the new seal in flush. Reassemble in reverse order and run a full cycle to confirm the leak is resolved before closing the cabinet.
