Common Symptoms
- Washer shakes or moves excessively during spin
- Tub sits visibly off-center or leans
- Loud knocking or rattling associated with tub movement
- Repeated unbalanced-load behavior despite a properly distributed load
Check Before Replacing
- Unplug the washer and inspect the suspension springs for a broken coil, rust-through, detached hook, or visibly stretched spring.
- With the washer empty and unplugged, visually check whether the outer tub is centered and supported evenly.
- Compare the condition and tension of the springs; unequal tension can prevent the tub from staying centered.
- Confirm the washer is level and that the symptom is not caused solely by an uneven load before attributing the problem to a spring.
Pro Tip
Because the suspension system depends on balanced spring tension, replacing the complete spring set is commonly recommended when one spring has failed or become weak.
