Check Before Replacing
- Disconnect electrical power and shut off the gas supply before accessing the burner assembly.
- Visually confirm that the radiant sensor is positioned across from the igniter and that its wiring connectors are seated.
- With power disconnected and the sensor wires removed, check the sensor for continuity at room temperature using a multimeter; lack of continuity indicates the sensor should be investigated, but does not by itself prove it is the only fault.
- Observe the ignition sequence only if the appliance manufacturer's service instructions permit it; distinguish an igniter that does not glow from an igniter that glows without burner ignition before attributing the issue to the sensor.
Pro Tip
A flame-sensor continuity check at room temperature is a useful screening test, but also inspect the igniter, thermal fuse, wiring, gas supply, and burner components because similar no-heat symptoms can have other causes.
