The WP3405-001034 is the genuine OEM Whirlpool microwave door interlock switch rated at 125/250 VAC. This switch is part of the door safety interlock system that prevents the microwave from operating when the door is open. When a door switch fails, the microwave may not start, may run with the door open (a safety hazard), or may blow the main fuse. This part directly replaces 3405-001034 and fits over 300 Whirlpool, Maytag, JennAir, Amana, and Samsung-built microwave models.

Microwave ovens use a series of two or three door interlock switches that must all close in the correct sequence when the door is shut before the magnetron can energize. The WP3405-001034 is a normally-open or normally-closed switch (depending on position in the circuit) rated at 125/250 VAC. A failed switch typically causes the microwave to be completely dead, to blow the main fuse, or in rare cases to run with the door open. Always replace all door switches as a set when one fails, and always replace the fuse if it has blown before diagnosing the switches.
Microwave completely dead — will not start at all — Main fuse blows repeatedly — Microwave runs with door open (safety hazard — stop use immediately) — Microwave starts but stops immediately after door closes — Display works but microwave won't heat

Unplug the microwave before beginning — capacitors inside can hold a lethal charge even when unplugged. If you are not comfortable discharging the capacitor, take the unit to a qualified technician. Remove the outer cabinet to access the door switch assembly. Photograph all switch positions and wire connections before disconnecting. Test each switch with a multimeter before replacing to confirm which one has failed. Replace the main fuse if it has blown. Install the new switch in the same position and orientation, reconnect all wires, reassemble the cabinet, and test all door positions before returning to service.
