A cracked or broken upper rack wheel is the most common cause of a Whirlpool dishwasher upper rack that falls off its track, wobbles during the wash cycle, or won’t slide in and out smoothly. In most Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and Maytag dishwashers, the upper rack rides on a set of plastic wheels that roll along the rack rails — when one or more wheels crack, chip, or break off entirely, the rack loses its support, tips to one side, and can fall off the track mid-cycle. ⚡ Common wear item in Whirlpool-built dishwashers after several years of use. Reinstall the rack on the rails and slide it in and out several times to confirm smooth, stable operation.
