If your GE refrigerator has excessive frost buildup on the evaporator coils, poor cooling in the fresh food section, or a freezer that ices over completely, the evaporator harness and thermostat assembly is a primary suspect. In most GE-built bottom-freezer and French door refrigerators, the evaporator thermostat monitors coil temperature and signals the defrost heater to activate — when the harness corrodes or the thermostat fails open, the defrost cycle never triggers, frost accumulates unchecked, and airflow through the evaporator is blocked entirely. ⚡ Common failure point in GE GNE, GWE, GDE, GBE, PNE, and QNE series refrigerators. Part WR03F04651 is the genuine OEM replacement assembly that restores proper defrost cycle triggering with a direct-fit installation requiring no modification.
This is the correct fix if ALL of the following are true:

✔ If these symptoms match, this is the most likely failed component in the system.
✔ In most cases, replacing this evaporator harness and thermostat restores automatic defrost cycles and full cooling immediately.
Skill Level: MODERATE — 30–45 minutes. Unplug the refrigerator before beginning. Remove all freezer contents and shelving, then unscrew and remove the rear evaporator panel to expose the coil and harness. Manually defrost any remaining ice with a hair dryer (do not use sharp tools), disconnect the old harness from the evaporator heater and control board connectors, and route the new harness in the same path before reconnecting. Ensure all connector clips are fully seated and the harness is routed clear of the evaporator fan blades before reinstalling the panel.
