Front-Right XL Burner Won’t Light, Flames Uneven, or Igniter Clicking with No Spark? The Burner Head Is the Most Likely Cause — After You’ve Ruled Out the Cap and Electrode.
Is This the Part You Need?
The WS01F07289 is the genuine OEM XL surface burner head for the front-right burner position on select GE, Café, Monogram, Profile, and Hotpoint gas ranges and cooktops. It meters and distributes the gas/air mixture through precision ports to create a stable, even flame across the XL burner footprint. Replace this part when the burner head is visibly corroded, warped, cracked, or continues to burn unevenly after thorough cleaning and confirmed cap seating. Important: Most ignition failures are caused by a dirty electrode, wet igniter, or misaligned burner cap — confirm those first before replacing the head.
Symptoms of a Failed or Damaged Burner Head
- Front-right XL burner won’t ignite or ignites intermittently
- Delayed ignition — “whoosh” sound on light
- Uneven flame pattern or weak heat output on the XL burner
- Yellow or orange flame from blocked/damaged ports (persists after cleaning)
- Igniter clicks continuously but no flame appears
- Flame lifts, blows out, or doesn’t wrap evenly around the burner ring
- Burner head visibly cracked, corroded, or warped

Installation Notes
- Skill Level: Easy — no tools required in most cases
- Turn the burner control off and allow the cooktop to cool completely before starting
- Remove grates, then lift off the burner cap from the front-right XL burner
- Lift off the old burner head (some models use a retaining screw — remove if present)
- Clean the burner base area and confirm the igniter electrode is dry and not bent or cracked
- Install the new WS01F07289 burner head — align locating tabs/pins correctly so it seats flat
- Reinstall the burner cap — it must sit perfectly flat and centered; a cocked cap causes uneven flame and mis-ignition
- Reinstall grates and test ignition and flame pattern on all heat settings including simmer
- Confirm you are replacing the front-right XL head — left/right and size variants look similar

Most front-right burner “no light” calls are not a failed burner head. Work through this checklist first: (1) Clean the burner ports with a soft brush — never enlarge ports with drills or picks. (2) Dry the igniter electrode completely — moisture after cleaning is the #1 cause of clicking with no spark. (3) Confirm the burner cap is seated flat and is the correct cap for this position — a cocked or swapped cap causes uneven flame and mis-ignition. (4) Check electrode gap and ceramic for cracks. If the burner still fails after all of the above, the head is the correct next replacement. Also: if yellow flames appear across multiple burners simultaneously, suspect gas supply pressure or air shutter issues — not the head.
