XP7 Refrigerator Thermostat – When Your Fridge Won't Hold Temperature, This Is the Part That Failed
The temperature control thermostat is the brain behind your refrigerator's cooling cycle — when it fails, the fridge either runs constantly, stops cooling altogether, or swings wildly between too warm and too cold, spoiling food and spiking your hydro bill. The XP7 universal thermostat kit delivers a precise cut-in at 7°C and cut-out at 3°C, restoring accurate temperature regulation. It replaces K50-P1118 and WR09X32545 and fits most standard refrigerators.
Symptoms of a Failed Refrigerator Thermostat
- Fridge not cooling — compressor not running or running only briefly
- Fridge running constantly — never cycling off, freezing everything
- Temperature swings — food spoiling even though fridge feels cold
- Fridge too warm even at coldest setting
- Fridge too cold — items freezing in the fresh food compartment
- Compressor short-cycling — turning on and off rapidly
- No response when adjusting the temperature dial
- Frost buildup in fridge section (thermostat not cycling defrost correctly)

💡 Pro Tip — Check the Compressor Before Replacing the Thermostat:
A thermostat that tests fine electrically but the fridge still won't cool usually points to a failed start relay or compressor — not the thermostat. Before ordering, test the thermostat by bypassing it temporarily: disconnect the two thermostat wires and connect them together. If the compressor starts and runs, the thermostat is confirmed faulty. If the compressor still won't run, the issue is downstream — start relay, overload protector, or compressor itself.
Installation Notes
-
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate — 20–40 minutes
-
CRITICAL: Unplug the refrigerator before starting — never work on live appliances
- Thermostat is typically located inside the fridge compartment behind the temperature dial/knob
- Photograph all wire connections before disconnecting
- Note the capillary tube routing — it must be re-routed identically on the new thermostat
-
Do not kink or sharply bend the capillary tube — this will damage the thermostat and cause immediate failure
- Reconnect wires per your photos, reinstall dial, restore power, and verify compressor cycles correctly
- Allow 2–4 hours for the fridge to stabilize before evaluating temperature
Compatible Models
Universal fit — compatible with most standard refrigerators using a mechanical temperature control thermostat. Verify your existing thermostat part number matches K50-P1118 or WR09X32545 before ordering, or confirm your model uses a mechanical thermostat with equivalent cut-in/cut-out specifications (7°C / 3°C).
