Common Symptoms

  • Door drops quickly when opened.
  • Door feels heavy or is difficult to close.
  • Door may not stay open.
  • Uneven door movement when one spring is broken or worn.
  • A damaged spring can contribute to door-latching problems.

Check Before Replacing

  • With the dishwasher empty, observe whether the door drops rapidly or feels substantially heavier than normal.
  • Compare door movement from side to side for uneven tension.
  • Inspect the door-balance spring and attached cable/linkage for visible breakage or separation, without applying force to the door mechanism.

Pro Tip

Because the spring is sold individually, replacing both door springs at the same time is recommended to reduce uneven wear and door tension.
