Whirlpool Dryer 8557403 – Superseded by WP8557403

Whirlpool dryer high-limit thermostat and inlet thermistor assembly mounted on the heating-element housing.

Is This the Right Part?

Common Symptoms

• No heat when the high-limit thermostat is open or defective
• Overheating or incorrect temperature control when the inlet thermistor gives an incorrect temperature signal

Check Before Replacing

• Disconnect power before servicing and inspect the assembly and wiring for visible damage.
• Test the thermostat for continuity with the dryer disconnected from power; an open reading when the thermostat should be closed can indicate a fault.
• Measure thermistor resistance at room temperature; one established parts reference specifies approximately 50–60 kΩ.
