The DG31-00005C is a genuine OEM Samsung convection AC motor for compatible Samsung freestanding gas and electric ranges. This motor drives the convection fan blade inside the oven cavity, circulating hot air for faster and more even cooking results. When the motor fails — from winding burnout, worn bearings, or a seized shaft — the convection fan stops spinning and the oven loses all convection performance. This is a direct OEM replacement part.

The DG31-00005C is an AC shaded-pole convection motor that mounts to the rear wall of the oven cavity. It connects to the convection fan blade via a direct shaft. Common failure modes include winding burnout (fan completely dead), worn bearings (grinding or rattling noise that worsens over time), and seized motor (hums or buzzes but blade won't turn). Note: this motor uses left-hand threads on the fan blade shaft — turn clockwise to remove the blade.
Convection fan not spinning when convection mode is selected — Grinding, rattling, or squealing noise from the oven — Uneven convection cooking or longer-than-expected cook times — Fan hums or buzzes but blade does not rotate — Fan works intermittently, especially when oven is hot

Disconnect power to the range at the breaker and unplug before beginning. Remove the lower oven racks and the rear oven wall panel to access the convection motor. Photograph the wiring harness before disconnecting. Remove the fan blade from the motor shaft — note this motor uses left-hand threads, so turn the blade clockwise to loosen. Remove the motor mounting screws, install the new motor, reconnect the harness, reinstall the fan blade (counterclockwise to tighten), and replace the rear panel. Restore power and run a convection cycle to verify the fan spins freely and quietly.
