LG Refrigerator Not Cooling, Compressor Not Starting, or Defrost Cycle Failing? The Power Control Board Is the Most Common Cause.
The power control board manages the compressor, evaporator fan, condenser fan, and defrost cycle — it is the central power distribution and timing hub for the entire refrigerator. When it fails, the compressor won’t start, cooling stops, the defrost cycle stalls causing ice buildup, or the fridge runs continuously without reaching temperature. The EBR60070707 is the replacement power control board for compatible LG refrigerators, restoring proper compressor control, fan operation, and defrost timing.
Symptoms of a Failed Refrigerator Power Control Board
- Refrigerator not cooling — fridge and freezer sections both warm
- Compressor not starting or starting then immediately shutting off
- Compressor runs continuously but fridge never reaches set temperature
- Defrost cycle not running — heavy frost or ice buildup on evaporator coils
- Evaporator or condenser fan not running despite compressor operating
- Refrigerator completely dead — no lights, no display, no compressor
- Error codes on the display that won’t clear after a power reset
- Intermittent cooling — fridge cools normally then stops for periods
- Clicking or buzzing from the compressor area with no cooling
- Freezer section cold but fresh food section warm

💡 Pro Tip — Test the Compressor Start Relay and Thermistor Before Replacing the Board:
A refrigerator that won’t cool is not always a failed control board. Before ordering, check two things: (1) the compressor start relay — shake it next to your ear; if it rattles, it’s failed and costs under $20 to replace; a bad start relay prevents the compressor from starting and perfectly mimics a board failure; and (2) the evaporator thermistor — if it’s reading out of range, the board receives incorrect temperature data and won’t call for cooling even when the board itself is fine. Both are inexpensive and quick to test with a multimeter. If both check out and the board still isn’t commanding the compressor, the power control board is the correct next step.
Installation Notes
-
Skill Level: Intermediate — requires access to the rear or bottom of the refrigerator and PCB harness disconnection
- Unplug the refrigerator before starting — do not work on the board while powered
- The power control board is typically located in a housing at the rear bottom of the refrigerator — remove the access panel to reach it
- Photograph all harness connector positions before disconnecting
- Handle the PCB carefully — avoid static discharge and do not touch board traces or components
- Verify all connectors click fully into place after installation — a partially seated connector causes intermittent faults
- Plug in the refrigerator and allow 24 hours for temperatures to stabilize before concluding the repair was successful
- If the compressor still doesn’t start after board replacement, test the compressor windings for continuity — a failed compressor will not be fixed by a new board

New vs. Used — Which Option Is Right for You?
The New variant is a fresh OEM-spec power control board — ideal for full service life and peace of mind on a high-value appliance. The Used variant is a Certified Pre-Owned board pulled from a working unit and tested before sale — a practical choice for an older refrigerator or when cost is a priority. Both options ship from XPart Supply Ltd. in Canada.
