The 318293811 is the OEM surface element switch (infinite switch) for Frigidaire, Electrolux, Kenmore, Tappan, Gibson, and White-Westinghouse electric ranges and cooktops. This switch sits behind the burner knob and controls how much heat the element produces by rapidly cycling the element on and off at varying intervals — brief on-cycles for low heat, nearly continuous on for high heat. When the switch fails, you lose the ability to control the burner entirely. Replacing it restores precise, adjustable heat control from simmer to sear.
We are building dedicated repair guides for the most popular Frigidaire and Electrolux range models compatible with this switch. Don’t see your model? Contact us and we’ll confirm compatibility for your specific range.

How do I know if my surface element switch has failed?
If turning the burner knob no longer changes the heat level, or the burner behaves differently than the other burners on the same range, the infinite switch for that burner has likely failed. A multimeter test across the switch terminals at different knob positions can confirm the diagnosis.
Is it safe to use the range if a burner won’t turn off?
No. A burner that won’t turn off indicates the switch contacts are welded shut — this is a fire and burn hazard. Disconnect power at the breaker immediately and replace the switch before using the range again.
Is this an OEM part?
Yes. The 318293811 listed here is the genuine Frigidaire OEM replacement switch.
What is an infinite switch?
An infinite switch (also called a surface element switch or energy regulator) controls burner heat by rapidly cycling the element on and off. The ratio of on-time to off-time determines the heat level, giving you smooth, stepless control from low to high.
