If your Whirlpool front-load washer is leaking from the back, draining slowly, or throwing drain error codes, a cracked or failed drain hose is the most common cause. In most Whirlpool, Maytag, and Amana front-load washers, this is caused by a failed drain hose. When it fails, wastewater can no longer exit the drum cleanly — resulting in pooling water under the machine, incomplete drain cycles, and persistent error codes that won't clear. ⚡ Common wear item in Whirlpool-platform front-load washers. ✔ If these symptoms match, this is the most likely failed component in the system.
✔ In most cases, replacing this drain hose restores normal operation immediately.
Skill Level: Easy — 20 to 30 minutes. Disconnect power and water supply before starting. Pull the washer away from the wall to access the rear. The drain hose connects to the pump outlet at the lower rear of the machine — loosen the hose clamp, slide the old hose off, and route the new hose in the same path. Secure the clamp firmly at the pump end, insert the standpipe end no more than 4–5 inches to allow proper venting, restore power, and run a drain-only cycle to confirm no leaks before pushing the washer back into position.
