An electric range burner that won’t heat, heats unevenly, or shows visible burn-through or breaks in the element coil almost always needs a new surface element. In most Whirlpool and Maytag electric ranges, the surface element is the resistive heating coil or radiant ribbon that converts electrical energy to heat at the cooktop — when the element burns through or develops an open circuit, that burner position stops working entirely or produces inconsistent heat. When it fails, the burner may glow in spots, produce no heat at all, or trip the infinite switch from overload. ⚡ Surface element failure is the most common cause of a dead burner on Whirlpool-platform electric ranges. Part W11706247 is the genuine OEM surface element that restores full burner heating immediately.

✔ If these symptoms match, this is the most likely failed component in the system.
✔ In most cases, replacing the surface element restores full burner heating immediately.
Skill Level: Easy — 15–25 min DIY. Disconnect power at the breaker before beginning — this is a 240V component. For coil elements, lift the element slightly and pull the terminal prongs straight out of the receptacle block; for radiant elements on glass-top ranges, lift the cooktop to access the element from below and note all wire terminal positions before disconnecting. Install the new W11706247 element in reverse order, restore power, and test at multiple heat settings before reassembling.
