The WG04A04370 is the genuine OEM door switch (also called a door latch switch or safety interlock switch) for GE dryers. This switch is mounted inside the door frame and completes the electrical circuit that allows the dryer to run — when it fails, the dryer won’t start at all, stops mid-cycle, or runs continuously even with the door open. The contacts inside the switch wear out from thousands of open/close cycles, and a failed switch is one of the most common reasons a GE dryer appears completely dead despite having power. Replacing WG04A04370 restores proper door safety interlock operation and gets the dryer running again. Supersedes 0184000030.
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate — one of the more accessible dryer repairs. Estimated time: 15–30 minutes. Always disconnect power before beginning. The door switch is typically accessed by removing the top panel or front panel depending on the model — consult your service manual for the correct disassembly sequence. Disconnect the wiring harness from the old switch, release the mounting tab or screw, and snap or screw the new switch into position. Reconnect the harness, reassemble, and test before closing up.
