A washing machine that won’t advance through cycles, gets stuck on one setting, or won’t start at all has a failed cycle switch. In most Whirlpool and Maytag top-load washers, this is caused by a worn or failed cycle selector switch. When it fails, the washer may not respond to cycle selection, get stuck mid-cycle, or refuse to start — leaving laundry sitting in water with no way to advance the machine manually. ⚡ Common failure point in Whirlpool-built top-load washers after years of daily use. Skill Level: MODERATE — 20–30 minutes. Disconnect power to the washer before beginning. Remove the control panel by releasing the clips or screws at the rear, locate the cycle switch behind the selector knob, disconnect the wiring harness, and pull the switch free from the panel. Press the new WPW10330139 into position, reconnect the harness, reinstall the control panel, and restore power. Do not force the knob onto the switch shaft — align the flat side of the shaft with the knob before pressing.
