When your washing machine won't fill with water — or fills too slowly, only on one temperature, or stops mid-cycle — the water inlet valve is the most common cause. In Whirlpool, Maytag, and Kenmore top-load washers, the inlet valve controls both hot and cold water entry into the tub. Skill Level: EASY — 20–30 minutes. Disconnect power and turn off both water supply valves before beginning. The valve is accessed from the rear of the machine — remove the back panel, disconnect the two inlet hoses and the wiring harness, and swap the valve. Have a towel ready for residual water in the hoses. No torque-sensitive fasteners — standard Phillips screws throughout.
