If your GE washer’s cycle selector knob is broken, spinning freely, or missing entirely, you’ve lost the ability to select or change wash cycles. In GE GUD, MCL, and ICL platform washers, the control knob engages a D-shaped selector shaft to set the wash cycle, water temperature, or spin speed — when the knob cracks, the inner bore strips out, or the knob snaps off, the washer may still run but you have no control over it. ⚡ Common failure point in GE-built front-load washer platforms after repeated use. ✔ If these symptoms match, this is the correct replacement part.
✔ In most cases, pressing the new knob onto the shaft restores full cycle selection immediately.
Skill Level: EASY — 2 to 5 minutes. No power disconnect required for knob replacement alone. Align the D-shaped inner bore of the new knob with the flat side of the selector shaft and press firmly and evenly until the knob seats fully against the control panel face. Test by turning through all cycle positions to confirm the shaft engages correctly at each detent. If the shaft itself is damaged or stripped, the selector switch behind the panel will also need replacement.
