  1. Unplug the dryer from the electrical outlet to ensure complete power disconnection.
  2. Pull the dryer away from the wall to provide adequate working space for accessing the rear or front panel.
  3. Remove the lint screen from the lint trap opening.
  4. Determine the dryer panel configuration. Some dryers require front panel removal, while others require rear panel removal to access the drum and belt. Consult the service manual for your specific model if uncertain.
  5. For front-panel access models: Remove the screws along the top edge of the front panel (typically 2-4 screws hidden under the lint trap opening). Lift the top panel up and prop it open or remove it completely.
  6. Remove the front panel by locating and removing the screws that secure it (typically 4-6 screws along the sides or bottom). Disconnect any wire harness connectors attached to the door switch. Carefully pull the front panel away and set it aside.
  7. For rear-panel access models: Remove the screws around the perimeter of the rear panel (typically 8-12 screws). Carefully pull the rear panel away and set it aside.
  8. Take multiple photos of the belt routing before removal. Document how the belt wraps around the drum, passes over the idler pulley, and connects to the motor pulley. This is critical for proper reassembly.
  9. Locate the drive belt wrapped around the drum. It should be visible once the front or rear panel is removed.
  10. Release tension on the belt by pushing the idler pulley toward the motor. This releases the belt tension and allows you to slip the belt off the motor pulley.
  11. Remove the old belt from the motor pulley, idler pulley, and drum. Pull it out of the dryer cabinet.
  12. Inspect the old belt for visible damage such as cracks, fraying, glazing (shiny smooth surface), stretching, or breaks. This confirms the diagnosis.
  13. Inspect the drum for debris or damage. Clean the drum surface where the belt rides with a damp cloth to remove lint, fabric softener residue, or debris.
  14. Inspect the idler pulley for wear, damage, or rough rotation. Spin the pulley by hand—it should rotate smoothly and quietly. If the pulley is worn or damaged, replace it along with the belt.
  15. Inspect the motor pulley for wear, damage, or debris. Clean the pulley with a cloth if necessary.
  16. Unpack the new 134719300 drive belt from its packaging. Handle carefully to avoid twisting or kinking the belt.
  17. Compare the new belt to the old one to verify the length, width, and overall appearance match. Ensure you have the correct replacement part.
  18. Position the new belt around the drum. The ribbed side (grooved side) of the belt should face toward the drum surface. The smooth side should face outward.
  19. Verify the belt is centered on the drum and not twisted or kinked.
  20. Route the belt under the drum so both ends hang down toward the motor and idler pulley area.
  21. Thread the belt around the idler pulley. The belt should wrap around the idler pulley in a way that creates tension when the pulley is released.
  22. Thread the belt around the motor pulley. Refer to your photos to verify the correct routing path.
  23. Pull the idler pulley toward the motor to create slack in the belt, then position the belt onto the motor pulley.
  24. Release the idler pulley slowly to allow it to tension the belt. The belt should be tight and properly seated on all pulleys.
  25. Verify the belt is properly routed by comparing it to your photos. The belt should wrap around the drum, pass over the idler pulley, and connect to the motor pulley without twists or misalignment.
  26. Manually rotate the drum by hand to verify the belt moves smoothly and doesn't slip off any pulleys. The drum should rotate freely without binding.
  27. Verify the belt tension by pressing on the belt between the drum and motor pulley. It should have moderate tension—not too loose (which causes slipping) or too tight (which causes excessive wear).
  28. Reinstall the front or rear panel by aligning it with the dryer cabinet and securing all screws. Reconnect any wire harness connectors to the door switch.
  29. Reinstall the top panel (if removed) by lowering it into position and securing the screws.
  30. Reinstall the lint screen in the lint trap opening.
  31. Push the dryer back into position against the wall.
  32. Plug the dryer back in and restore power.
  33. Run a test cycle (without clothes) on a timed dry cycle for 5-10 minutes to verify proper belt operation.
  34. Listen for unusual noises during the test cycle. The dryer should run quietly without squealing, squeaking, or thumping sounds.
  35. Verify the drum rotates smoothly and consistently throughout the test cycle. Open the door briefly during operation to verify the drum is turning.
  36. Verify the dryer heats properly during the test cycle. The exhaust air should be warm within 2-3 minutes of starting.
  37. If the drum does not rotate, turn off the dryer and verify the belt is properly seated on all pulleys and not twisted or kinked.
  38. If squealing or squeaking noises occur, the belt may be misaligned or the idler pulley may be worn. Verify the belt routing and inspect the idler pulley.
  39. If the belt slips off during operation, the belt may be too loose or the idler pulley may not be tensioning properly. Verify the belt routing and idler pulley function.
  40. Run a full drying cycle with a typical load of clothes to confirm the repair is complete and the dryer operates normally.

Safety Notes: Always unplug the dryer before working on it. The drum is heavy—use caution when removing or reinstalling panels to avoid pinching fingers or dropping the drum. Never operate the dryer without the drive belt installed—this can damage the motor and create safety hazards. Ensure proper belt routing to prevent slipping or premature wear.

Belt routing is critical — get it right or the belt will slip off. The belt wraps around the drum (ribbed/grooved side touching drum), then goes UNDER the idler pulley, then around the motor pulley. Think of it as a zigzag pattern. If routed incorrectly, the belt will slip off or the drum may not turn properly. When installing, make sure the belt is centered on the drum — if it rides too far forward or back, it can slip off during operation or cause uneven wear. While you have the dryer open, inspect the idler pulley carefully: it should spin freely without wobbling, grinding, or squeaking. A worn idler pulley is a common cause of dryer noise and can cause premature belt failure. Also check the drum slides/glides at the front of the drum — worn slides create friction that puts extra stress on the belt. If the old belt broke due to a seized idler pulley or badly worn drum slides, replacing just the belt won't fix the underlying problem — the new belt will fail quickly too. Many technicians replace the belt, idler pulley, and drum slides together as a maintenance kit.

134719300 Frigidaire Dryer Drive Belt – Fix Your Dryer That Won't Tumble, Won't Start, or Makes Squealing Noises

134719300 Dryer Drive Belt (5/16" x 79-1/4") – The essential fix for a Frigidaire dryer that won't tumble, has a motor that runs but the drum doesn't spin, makes squealing or thumping noises, or won't start at all. The drum belt is a long, thin black belt that wraps around the outside of the dryer drum and connects to the motor pulley and idler pulley — it's what makes the drum spin when the motor runs. Over time, the belt stretches, cracks, frays, glazes, or breaks completely from constant heat exposure and use. When the belt breaks, the motor runs but the drum doesn't turn — you'll hear the motor humming but clothes won't tumble. A worn belt that's slipping or glazed causes squealing, squeaking, or chirping noises during operation. If your dryer runs but the drum doesn't move, you hear unusual noises during tumbling, or you found a broken belt when you opened the cabinet — this is the part you need. This genuine OEM Frigidaire/Electrolux belt directly replaces 137315300, 7134719300, 134503900, 134163500, and 134163400. Fits Frigidaire, Electrolux, Kenmore, electric and gas dryers. Easy 20–30 minute DIY repair that gets your dryer tumbling again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Frigidaire dryer make a squealing noise?

A squealing, squeaking, or chirping noise from your Frigidaire dryer is usually caused by a worn drive belt or a failing idler pulley. The drive belt wraps around the drum and runs over the idler pulley and motor pulley — as the belt ages, it can become glazed (smooth and shiny), stretched, or develop cracks. A glazed belt slips on the pulleys, creating a squealing sound, especially when the dryer first starts or when the drum is loaded with heavy items. The idler pulley can also wear out — its bearing may dry out or fail, causing squeaking or squealing as it spins. To diagnose, open the dryer and inspect the belt for glazing, cracks, or fraying, and spin the idler pulley by hand to check for noise or roughness. In most cases, replacing the belt solves the squealing. If the idler pulley is also worn, replace it at the same time to prevent the noise from returning and to protect your new belt.
