The dual surface element control switch uses a rotating shaft mechanism to send variable resistance signals to the surface element, controlling heat output from simmer to high. Over time the internal contacts wear, causing erratic heat, no heat, or a switch that feels loose or intermittent. This part directly controls both inner and outer rings of a dual element burner and must be replaced as a unit when it fails.
