When your LG electric range burner won’t heat, won’t turn off, only works on high, or gives you no temperature control, the infinite switch is almost always the culprit. The EBF62174906 is the genuine OEM LG replacement — the same component that came in your range from the factory. It works by cycling power to the burner element on and off at varying intervals, giving you precise heat control from simmer to sear. When the internal bimetal mechanism or contacts wear out, that control disappears entirely. This part restores it.

The infinite switch (also called a surface burner switch, rotary switch, or simmerstat) sits directly behind the control knob on your range’s control panel. It uses a bimetal strip that flexes with heat to cycle the burner element on and off — the higher the knob setting, the longer the element stays energized per cycle. When the contacts weld shut, the burner won’t turn off. When the bimetal strip breaks or contacts burn out, the burner won’t heat at all. The EBF62174906 is a direct OEM plug-in replacement with pre-wired terminals — no soldering required.
Burner won’t heat or turn on. Burner won’t turn off (stays on constantly — safety hazard). Burner only works on high regardless of knob position. No temperature control or inconsistent heat. Burner heats intermittently or cycles erratically. Burner indicator light doesn’t illuminate when burner is on. Knob turns but nothing happens. One burner works, others don’t.

Turn off power at the circuit breaker before beginning — this part operates on 240V. Pull the range away from the wall for access. Remove the control knobs and control panel back cover to expose the infinite switches. Photograph all wire connections before disconnecting anything. The terminals are labeled: H1/H2 connect to the heating element, L1/L2 are the 240V power supply, and P is the pilot/indicator light circuit. If you find melted wire connectors during removal, replace them before reinstalling. Remove the mounting bracket screws, swap the switch, reconnect wires per your photo, reassemble, restore power, and test each heat setting.
