Genuine OEM Replacement Part

LG Range Radiant Surface Element MEE64286201 – Burner Won’t Heat or Glow Red Fix

Replaces MEE62385201 3200W High-Power Element LG · Kenmore Elite LRE · LSE · LDE Series

When a burner on your LG electric range or smoothtop cooktop won’t heat, heats unevenly, or fails to glow red, the radiant surface element beneath the ceramic glass has failed. The element’s coiled ribbon heats by resistance — a burned-out ribbon, broken connection, or internal short cuts power entirely, leaving one burner dead while the rest of the cooktop works fine. Part MEE64286201 is the genuine OEM 3200W high-power element that restores full heating to your cooktop in a 30–45 minute DIY repair.

Symptoms of a Failed Radiant Surface Element

  • Burner won’t heat at all — no warmth, no glow
  • Element heats only partially (one zone of a dual-circuit element)
  • Burner heats very slowly or inconsistently
  • Element does not glow red when turned on high
  • One burner dead while all others work normally
  • Visible burn marks, cracks, or breaks in the element ribbon

Part Details

  • OEM Part Number: MEE64286201
  • Replaces: MEE62385201
  • Wattage: 3200W
  • Element Type: Radiant surface element (under ceramic glass cooktop)
  • Compatible Brands: LG, Kenmore Elite
  • Condition: New OEM
💡 Pro Tip — Test the Element Before Replacing the Control Board:
A dead burner is almost always the element, not the control board. Before spending 3× the cost on a board, test the element for continuity with a multimeter — a reading of OL (open loop) confirms the element has failed. Replacing the element first saves significant cost and eliminates the most common cause in one step.

Installation Notes

  • Skill Level: Intermediate — requires removing the ceramic glass cooktop to access the element
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before beginning — 240V appliance
  • Photograph wiring connections before disconnecting
  • Handle ceramic glass carefully — support from underneath when lifting
  • Element clips or brackets may require a flat-head screwdriver to release
  • Allow cooktop to cool completely before testing after reassembly

Why does only one burner on my glass cooktop not work?

When one burner on your glass cooktop doesn't heat but the others work fine, the radiant element for that specific burner has most likely failed. Each burner on a glass cooktop has its own independent radiant heating element beneath the glass, controlled by its own infinite switch (control knob). When an element burns out — due to a break in the resistance ribbon, a failed connection, or internal damage — that specific burner stops heating while the others continue to work normally. To confirm the element is the problem, turn on the non-working burner and look at the glass surface — a working element glows bright orange/red within 15–30 seconds. If there's no glow at all, the element is likely burned out. If the element glows partially (only some sections light up), it has a partial failure. You can also test the element with a multimeter for continuity/resistance. If the element tests good but the burner still doesn't heat, the infinite switch (control) for that burner may have failed instead.
