CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING: This repair involves 240V electrical connections. Always unplug the dryer and turn off the circuit breaker before beginning work to prevent electrical shock. Verify airflow is unrestricted before operating the dryer to prevent overheating and repeat element failure. If uncomfortable with this repair, hire a qualified technician.

  1. Turn off the circuit breaker supplying power to the dryer at the main electrical panel. CRITICAL: Electric dryers operate on 240V AC—turning off the breaker is essential for safety.
  2. Unplug the dryer from the electrical outlet (or verify power is off if hardwired).
  3. Verify power is off using a non-contact voltage tester at the dryer terminal block.
  4. Move the dryer away from the wall to access the rear panel. You may need assistance—dryers are heavy.
  5. Disconnect the dryer vent hose from the rear of the dryer by loosening the clamp.
  6. Take multiple photos of the dryer rear panel, heating element location, and wire connections before disassembly. This is critical for proper reassembly.
  7. Remove the rear access panel by removing the screws around the perimeter (typically 6-10 screws). Some models require removing the top or front panel instead—consult your service manual for specific model access.
  8. Locate the heating element assembly in the lower rear section of the dryer (typically inside a rectangular metal housing or heater box).
  9. Take detailed close-up photos of the heating element wire connections, thermal fuse, and thermostat positions from multiple angles.
  10. Disconnect the wire connectors from the heating element terminals by pulling the spade connectors straight off. Do not pull on wires—grip the connectors. Important: Note wire positions for correct reconnection (typically two wires to element terminals).
  11. Disconnect any thermal fuse or thermostat wires attached to the heater housing (if present). Take photos before disconnecting.
  12. Remove the heating element housing mounting screws (typically 2-4 screws) that secure the housing to the dryer cabinet.
  13. Carefully remove the heating element assembly (entire housing with element inside) from the dryer and place on a clean work surface.
  14. Inspect the old heating element coil through the housing vents for visible damage such as breaks, burns, or separation. This confirms the diagnosis.
  15. Test the old heating element with a multimeter set to measure resistance (ohms). Touch probes to the two terminals. A functioning 5300-watt element at 240V should read approximately 10-11 ohms. Infinite reading = broken element (open circuit). Very low reading (under 5 ohms) = partial short.
  16. Inspect the thermal fuse (if accessible) with a multimeter—should show continuity (0 ohms). Infinite reading = blown fuse. Replace thermal fuse if blown.
  17. Inspect the high-limit thermostat (if accessible) with a multimeter—should show continuity when cool. Replace if failed.
  18. Check for airflow restrictions that caused element failure: clean lint filter thoroughly, inspect and clean exhaust vent duct (remove lint buildup), verify vent hood outside opens freely, inspect blower housing for lint buildup. CRITICAL: Restricted airflow causes overheating and repeat element failures.
  19. Inspect wire terminals and connectors for corrosion, damage, or burned insulation. Clean or replace damaged components.
  20. Unpack the new DC47-00019A heating element assembly from its packaging. The assembly includes the element coil, insulators, and mounting frame pre-assembled.
  21. Compare the new element assembly to the old one to verify dimensions, terminal positions, mounting holes, and housing configuration match.
  22. Inspect the new element for any shipping damage before installation.
  23. Test the new element with a multimeter (optional)—should read approximately 10-11 ohms between terminals.
  24. Position the new heating element assembly in the mounting location in the dryer cabinet, aligning the mounting holes.
  25. Install the heating element housing mounting screws and tighten firmly but not excessively.
  26. Verify the element housing is securely mounted with no movement or gaps.
  27. Reconnect the wire connectors to the heating element terminals by pushing the spade connectors firmly onto the 1/4-inch male terminals. CRITICAL: Ensure correct wire connections—reversed connections may damage the element or control board.
  28. Reconnect any thermal fuse or thermostat wires to their original positions according to your detailed photos.
  29. Verify all electrical connections are secure by gently tugging on each wire connector.
  30. Double-check all connections against your detailed photos to ensure correct installation.
  31. Verify no wires are pinched or crushed between panels or components.
  32. Reinstall the rear access panel (or top/front panel if removed) by positioning it and installing the mounting screws. Tighten firmly.
  33. Reconnect the dryer vent hose to the rear of the dryer and secure with the clamp. Ensure the connection is tight with no gaps.
  34. Move the dryer back to its installation location.
  35. Restore power by turning on the circuit breaker.
  36. Plug in the dryer (if unplugged).
  37. Run a test cycle (timed dry, high heat, 15-20 minutes) with a small load of damp towels.
  38. Verify the dryer heats properly by feeling the exhaust air after 5 minutes—should be warm to hot (130-160°F).
  39. Listen for unusual noises during operation—dryer should run smoothly without rattling or grinding.
  40. Check for burning smells (slight odor is normal from manufacturing oils burning off during first use).
  41. Monitor the dryer temperature to ensure it doesn't overheat—drum should be warm but not too hot to touch.
  42. Verify clothes dry properly in the expected time (typically 40-60 minutes for a full load).
  43. If the dryer heats properly and dries clothes efficiently, the repair is complete.

Safety Notes: Always unplug the dryer and turn off the circuit breaker before working on 240V systems. Take extensive photos during disassembly for proper reassembly. Clean lint filter and exhaust vent thoroughly before operating—restricted airflow causes element failure. Test old element with multimeter to confirm failure. Check and replace thermal fuse if blown. Verify proper heating during test cycle. This repair requires moderate-advanced mechanical and electrical skills.

  1. Always test the heating element with a multimeter before replacement to confirm failure. Measure resistance between terminals—should read approximately 10-11 ohms for a 5300-watt element at 240V. Infinite reading = broken element (open circuit). Very low reading (under 5 ohms) = partial short. Also check for shorts to the metal housing—should be infinite resistance.
  2. The most common cause of heating element failure is restricted airflow—always clean the lint filter and exhaust vent before replacing the element. Clogged lint filters, blocked exhaust vents, and restricted blower housings cause overheating that burns out elements prematurely. Clean the entire exhaust system from dryer to outside vent hood. Use a vent cleaning brush or vacuum to remove lint buildup.
  3. Always check and replace the thermal fuse when replacing the heating element—a blown thermal fuse prevents the element from heating. The thermal fuse is a one-time safety device that blows (opens) when the dryer overheats, cutting power to the heating element. Test with a multimeter—should show continuity (0 ohms) when good. Replace if blown (infinite resistance).
  4. Heating elements typically last 8-12 years with normal use. Premature failure usually indicates restricted airflow, power surge damage, or manufacturing defect. Factors that shorten element life include clogged lint filters (most common), blocked exhaust vents, overloading the dryer, frequent high-heat cycles, and poor ventilation.
  5. The DC47-00019A is a complete heating element assembly that includes the coil, insulators, and mounting frame—no disassembly required. Simply remove the old assembly and install the new one. Do not attempt to replace just the coil—the entire assembly must be replaced as a unit.
  6. If the new element doesn't heat, check for blown thermal fuse, failed thermostats, faulty control board, or incorrect wiring. A blown thermal fuse cuts power to the element. Failed cycling thermostat or high-limit thermostat prevents element operation. Control board failures prevent the element from receiving power. Verify correct wire connections.
  7. The heating element should cycle on and off during the drying cycle to maintain optimal temperature—this is normal operation. The cycling thermostat monitors drum temperature and cycles the element on and off. You may hear clicking sounds as the thermostat cycles. Continuous heating without cycling indicates thermostat failure.
  8. Verify proper airflow after element replacement by checking exhaust temperature—should be 130-160°F during operation. Use an infrared thermometer or place your hand near the exhaust vent. If exhaust is cool or barely warm, check for airflow restrictions. If exhaust is too hot (over 180°F), the cycling thermostat may have failed.
  9. The heating element terminals must have secure electrical connections—loose connections cause arcing, overheating, and element failure. Ensure female spade connectors are pushed fully onto the 1/4-inch male terminals. Inspect connectors for corrosion or damage and replace if necessary. Loose connections are a common cause of repeat failures.
  10. Run a full test cycle with damp towels after element replacement to verify proper operation and temperature regulation. Monitor the dryer for 15-20 minutes to ensure it heats properly, cycles correctly, and doesn't overheat. Check exhaust temperature and listen for normal operation. This test identifies installation problems before using the dryer for regular laundry.

DC47-00019A Samsung Dryer Heating Element – Fix Your Dryer That Won't Heat, Takes Too Long to Dry, or Blows Cold Air

DC47-00019A Dryer Heating Element – The complete fix for a Samsung electric dryer that won't heat, has no heat, takes too long to dry, produces weak heat, or blows cold air while running. The heating element is the component that generates all the heat in your electric dryer — it's a coiled nichrome resistance wire that glows red-hot when electricity flows through it, warming the air that tumbles through your clothes and evaporates moisture. When the heating element fails — due to a burned-out coil, broken wire, or element touching the housing (grounded) — the dryer will run and tumble normally but produce no heat or significantly reduced heat, leaving clothes damp or wet after a full cycle. A completely burned-out element produces zero heat; a partially failed or grounded element may produce weak, intermittent, or excessive heat before tripping safety devices. If your Samsung dryer drum spins but clothes aren't drying, the heating element is the most common cause after checking for a clogged vent. This genuine OEM Samsung part directly replaces earlier versions and fits Samsung and Kenmore electric dryers. Moderate 30–45 minute DIY repair that restores full heating power to your dryer.

✅ Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Samsung dryer take so long to dry clothes?

When a Samsung dryer takes multiple cycles or excessive time to dry clothes, there are two main causes: a clogged vent system or a failing heating element. First, check the vent — a restricted or clogged vent is the most common cause of slow drying. Clean the lint trap, the lint trap housing (use a vent brush), and the entire duct from the dryer to the outside exhaust. You should feel strong airflow at the outside vent hood when the dryer is running. If airflow is good but drying is still slow, the heating element may be partially failed — producing some heat but not full power. A weak element can't generate enough heat to dry clothes efficiently. Test the element with a multimeter: it should read 10–12 ohms. If the reading is significantly higher, the element has increased resistance and reduced heat output. Also check the thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat — if either has failed, it can interrupt power to the element. Replacing a worn element and ensuring proper venting restores normal drying times.
