1. Turn off the circuit breaker supplying power to the range at the main electrical panel. CRITICAL: Electric ranges operate on 240V AC—turning off the breaker is essential for safety.
2. Verify power is off using a non-contact voltage tester at the range control panel.
3. Allow the oven to cool completely if it has been used recently. Wait at least 2 hours.
4. Remove all oven racks from the oven cavity and set aside.
5. Take photos of the temperature sensor installation and mounting position before removal.
6. Pull the range away from the wall to access the rear panel. You may need assistance—ranges are heavy.
7. Locate the temperature sensor at the rear of the oven cavity. The sensor probe extends through the rear oven wall into the oven interior.
8. Take detailed photos of the sensor wire connection at the rear of the range before disconnecting.
9. Remove the rear access panel (if present) by removing screws around the perimeter. Some models have the sensor accessible without removing the rear panel.
10. Locate the sensor wire connector at the rear of the range (typically a 2-pin plug connector attached to the control board wiring harness or junction box).
11. Disconnect the sensor wire connector by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector apart. Do not pull on wires—grip the connector body.
12. From inside the oven cavity, locate the sensor mounting bracket at the rear wall (typically upper left or upper center of rear wall).
13. Remove the sensor mounting screw or bracket (typically 1 Phillips screw) that secures the sensor to the rear oven wall.
