1. Always replace rack adjusters in pairs (left and right sides) even if only one side appears damaged. Mismatched adjusters can cause the upper rack to tilt or become unstable, leading to poor wash performance and potential damage to dishes. Replacing both adjusters ensures even rack support and smooth operation.
2. Verify both rack adjusters are at the same height position on the tub wall before reinstalling the upper rack. Misaligned adjusters will cause the rack to tilt to one side, preventing proper water spray coverage and causing dishes to slide or tip over during the wash cycle.
3. Test the release lever and latch mechanism before reinstalling the upper rack. Press the release lever to verify it moves smoothly and the latch engages and disengages properly. A stiff or sticky release lever indicates a defective adjuster that should be replaced before installation.
4. Inspect the upper rack rails for damage or wear when replacing rack adjusters. Worn or damaged rack rails can prevent smooth sliding motion even with new adjusters. If the rack rails are bent, cracked, or worn, they should be replaced along with the adjusters.
5. Clean the mounting area on the tub wall before installing new rack adjusters. Debris, mineral deposits, or corrosion on the mounting surface can prevent proper adjuster seating and cause the adjuster to detach during use. Wipe the mounting area with a damp cloth before installation.
6. Press the rack adjuster firmly into place until you hear or feel a click. The mounting clips must fully engage with the tub wall mounting slots to ensure secure attachment. A partially seated adjuster will detach during use and cause the rack to fall.
7. Load the upper rack with dishes and test the rack stability before running a wash cycle. A properly installed rack adjuster will support the full weight of a loaded rack without tilting or sagging. If the rack tilts or moves when loaded, verify both adjusters are fully seated and at the same height position.
8. The rack adjuster release lever must be pressed on both sides simultaneously to adjust the rack height. Pressing only one side will cause the rack to tilt and may damage the adjuster mechanism. Always press both release levers at the same time when adjusting rack height.
9. Most dishwashers have 2-3 height positions available for the upper rack. The lower positions provide more clearance for tall items in the upper rack, while the higher positions provide more clearance for tall pots and pans in the lower rack. Choose the height position that best fits your loading needs.
