Genuine OEM Replacement Part
Whirlpool Top-Load Washer Clothes Not Getting Clean or Agitator Not Moving? Replace the Agitator W11614636
Replaces W11395428
WTW8127 / WTW5057 / WTW6157 Series
Whirlpool / Maytag / Amana
The agitator is the central post in a top-load washer that rotates back and forth to move clothes through the water and detergent during the wash cycle. When the agitator fins break, the drive hub strips, or the agitator cracks, clothes barely move through the water, come out still dirty or with detergent residue, and you may hear a grinding or clicking noise from the centre of the tub. The W11614636 is the OEM agitator for Whirlpool, Maytag, and Amana top-load washers, directly replacing W11395428. Fits WTW8127, WTW5057, WTW4957, WTW6157, and related series.

💡 Pro Tip — Inspect the Drive Shaft Splines and Agitator Cap While the Agitator Is Out:
Once the agitator is removed, inspect the drive shaft splines at the bottom of the tub for wear or rounding — a stripped shaft will cause the new agitator to spin freely without engaging, producing the same no-agitation symptom. Also check the agitator cap and bolt at the top: a loose or missing bolt allows the agitator to lift off the shaft during the cycle, causing intermittent agitation failure. Catching either issue during the same repair saves a second disassembly.
⚙️ Installation Notes
-
Skill Level: Beginner — straightforward repair, basic tools required
-
First Step: Unplug the washer before beginning any work
-
Access: The agitator is accessed directly from inside the wash tub — no panel removal required
-
Removal: Remove the agitator cap at the top (pry or unscrew depending on model), then remove the bolt underneath using a 7/16” socket, and lift the agitator straight up off the drive shaft
-
Inspection: Check the drive shaft splines for wear before installing the new agitator
-
Installation: Lower the new agitator onto the drive shaft, align the splines, press down firmly until fully seated, reinstall the bolt and cap
-
Torque: Snug the centre bolt firmly but do not overtighten — overtightening can crack the agitator hub
-
After Install: Run a short wash cycle and confirm proper agitation before considering the repair complete
