WG04L04550 – When Your GE Dishwasher Leaks from the Bottom, This Gasket Is Why

A failed sump gasket is one of the most common causes of water pooling under a GE dishwasher. The WG04L04550 is the genuine OEM sump gasket that seals the pump and sump assembly to the tub floor. When this seal degrades, water bypasses the wash system and escapes onto your floor — often mid-cycle. Replacing it with the correct OEM part restores a watertight seal and gets your dishwasher running properly again.

Is This the Part You Need?

This is the sump gasket (also called the pump gasket or sump seal) that sits between the sump housing and the dishwasher tub. If your dishwasher is leaking from underneath — not from the door — this is the first part to inspect. Confirm your model number in the door jamb label before ordering.

Symptoms of a Failed Sump Gasket

  • Water pooling on the floor under the dishwasher during or after a cycle
  • Visible moisture or mineral deposits around the base of the unit
  • Dishwasher leaking from the bottom (not the door)
  • Burning smell if water contacts the motor or heating element
  • Reduced wash performance due to loss of water pressure in the sump

Installation Notes

Skill Level: Intermediate. Replacing the sump gasket requires pulling the dishwasher out from the cabinet and accessing the underside of the tub. Always disconnect power at the breaker before beginning. Shut off the water supply line. The lower spray arm, filter assembly, and sump cover must be removed to access the gasket. Seat the new gasket evenly around the full perimeter of the sump housing before reassembling — an uneven seat will cause the leak to return. Run a short cycle and inspect for leaks before pushing the unit back into the cabinet.

💡 Pro Tip — Replace the Door Gasket While You're In There:
If your dishwasher is old enough to have a failed sump gasket, the door boot seal and lower spray arm bearing ring are likely worn too. Replacing them in the same service call saves a second labour trip and prevents the next leak before it starts. Ask us about compatible door gaskets for your model.
