Bosch dishwashers require the drain hose to be routed with a high loop — the hose must rise to the underside of the countertop before dropping down to the drain connection. Without a high loop, dirty water from the sink drain can siphon back into the dishwasher tub between cycles, causing odours, contamination, and false drain errors. Bosch does not use an air gap fitting on most North American installations — the high loop is the required backflow prevention method.
