279838 is a genuine Whirlpool electric-dryer heating-element assembly rated at 240 volts and 5,400 watts. It replaces verified Whirlpool element numbers 3398064, 3403585 and 8565582.

The assembly includes the metal housing, heating coil and ceramic insulators. The high-limit thermostat is not included and normally transfers from the original element when it tests correctly and is not physically damaged.

The heating element warms air as it moves through the dryer. A burned-open, damaged or grounded coil may contribute to no heat, insufficient heat, intermittent heating or long drying times.
