Why does my Samsung refrigerator ice dispenser hum but not dispense ice?

A humming sound when you press the ice dispenser lever — but no ice comes out — typically means the auger motor is trying to run but can't turn the auger. The most common causes are: (1) stripped gears inside the motor gearbox — the motor spins but can't transfer power to the auger shaft; (2) a seized motor — bearings have failed and the motor is stalled; (3) ice jam — a large chunk of ice or frozen clump is blocking the auger from rotating; or (4) the auger coupler is stripped or broken. First, remove the ice bucket and check for ice jams or obstructions in the auger housing. If clear, try turning the motor shaft by hand — it should turn with some resistance. If the shaft won't turn or turns freely without resistance (stripped gears), the auger motor assembly needs to be replaced. The humming indicates the motor is receiving power, so the electrical circuit is working — the mechanical drive has failed.
