Why does my Samsung refrigerator ice dispenser hum but not dispense ice?

First, remove the ice bucket and check for ice jams or obstructions in the auger housing. If clear, try turning the motor shaft by hand — it should turn with some resistance. If the shaft won't turn or turns freely without resistance (stripped gears), the auger motor assembly needs to be replaced. The humming indicates the motor is receiving power, so the electrical circuit is working — the mechanical drive has failed.
