A washing machine that won’t drain, leaves standing water in the drum, or stops mid-cycle is almost always a failed drain pump — not a control board or lid switch issue. In most Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana, and Inglis top-load washers, this is caused by a failed drain pump assembly. When it fails, water cannot be expelled from the drum, the washer stops mid-cycle, and error codes like F21 or Sud appear on the display. ⚡ One of the highest-volume washer repairs across the entire Whirlpool platform — this pump fails on hundreds of models. Part WPW10276397 is the genuine OEM replacement that restores full drain function and clears standing water immediately.
This is the correct fix if ALL of the following are true:
✔ If these symptoms match, this is the most likely failed component in the system.
✔ In most cases, replacing this drain pump restores normal drain function immediately.
Skill Level: Moderate — 30–45 minutes. Disconnect power and water supply before servicing. Tilt the washer back or lay it on its side to access the pump from the bottom, disconnect the wiring harness and two drain hoses from the old pump, remove the mounting screws, install the new WPW10276397 pump, reconnect hoses and harness, and restore power to test. Have towels ready — residual water will drain when hoses are disconnected.
