Whirlpool Dishwasher Not Filling with Water? W11434044 Water Inlet Valve — Fix No-Fill Fast

When your Whirlpool dishwasher won’t fill with water, fills too slowly, or water runs continuously into the tub, the water inlet valve is the most common cause. In WDT, WDTA, MDB, KDFE, KDTE, KDTM, KDPM, and KDFM series dishwashers, the dual-solenoid water inlet valve controls water entry into the tub for every wash cycle. When the valve fails closed, the tub stays empty and the cycle runs dry. When it fails open, water flows continuously and the tub overflows. ⚡ One of the most common dishwasher failures across all Whirlpool-built platforms. Part W11434044 is the genuine OEM replacement — superseding W11025970, W11025972, and W11187724 — and restores correct fill volume and cycle performance.

❓ Is This the Right Part?

This is the correct fix if ALL of the following are true:

  • ✔ Dishwasher powers on and cycles run normally otherwise
  • ✔ Water supply shutoff valve under the sink is fully open
  • ✔ Water supply pressure is between 20–120 PSI
  • ✔ Inlet screens on the valve have been inspected and are not clogged
  • ✔ ONLY problem is no fill, slow fill, continuous fill, or water leaking from the valve area

🔧 Common Symptoms

  • Dishwasher not filling with water — cycle runs but tub stays empty — most common complaint
  • Dishwasher filling slowly — takes much longer than normal to reach fill level
  • Water continuously flowing into the tub — valve stuck open, tub overflows
  • Water leaking from the valve area under or behind the dishwasher
  • Fill error codes on the display (varies by model)
  • Loud clicking or buzzing from the valve area during fill — solenoid coil failing

✔ If these symptoms match, this is the most likely failed component in the system.

✔ In most cases, replacing the water inlet valve restores correct fill volume and cycle performance immediately.

📦 Part Details

  • Part Number: W11434044
  • Type: Dual-solenoid water inlet valve — controls hot and cold water entry, Whirlpool OEM
  • Replaces: OEM direct-fit valve — supersedes W11025970, W11025972, W11187724 (no modification required)
  • Brands: Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Inglis
⚠️ Check Before You Order:
Inspect the inlet screens at each port on the valve — mineral deposits from hard water pack these screens solid and cut flow to a trickle without the valve itself failing. Clean screens with a soft brush and white vinegar and retest before ordering. Also test for 120V AC at the valve terminals during a fill cycle — if voltage is present and the valve doesn’t open, the valve is confirmed faulty.

⚙️ Installation

Skill Level: MODERATE — 30–45 minutes. Turn off the water supply and disconnect power before beginning — have towels and a bucket ready for residual water in the hoses. The valve is located at the rear lower section of the dishwasher behind the kickplate or access panel. Photograph all hose connections and wiring harness positions before disconnecting. Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab (never pull by the wires), loosen hose clamps, and remove the mounting screws. Install the new W11434044, reconnect hoses and harness per your photos, and tighten all clamps firmly — do not overtighten as this can crack the valve body. Restore water and power, then run a test cycle to confirm correct fill level and no leaks.

💡 Pro Tip

Test the Solenoid Before Replacing the Valve:
Test each solenoid coil with a multimeter — each should read approximately 500–1500 ohms resistance. An open circuit (infinite resistance) confirms a failed solenoid and the valve must be replaced. If resistance is good, test for 120V AC at the valve terminals during a fill cycle — voltage present but valve not opening means the valve seat is stuck or the solenoid plunger is seized. Both checks take 10 minutes and confirm the diagnosis before ordering.
